QD! - Quake Dialer/Termial! version 1.00.02α
=======================================================================
(c) 1996, Simply Silly Software
What is QD!
-----------
Ok, now I've had some sleep.
For some god forsaken reason, id Software left modem support out of the
DM test version of Quake. Now, we all know that by using the NULL modem
support built in and a terminal program, you can play moQuake.
Well.. this little utility fixes all these problems and makes setting up
a modem game quick and easy. It gives you a menu to enter all the parameters
instead of having to use the console inside quake, and will even sync up
the games.
Installing QD!
--------------
Simple. Just unzip in your your QUAKE directory.
Running QD!
-----------
Just change to your QUAKE directory and type QD!. There is only 1 command
line switch.
If you type "QD! SETMOUSE h v" you can have QD! setup your mouse before you
play and restore it aftwarders. "h" is a number between 0 and 100 that
defines the horz. sensitivity. "v" is a number between 0 and 100 that
defines the vert. sensitivity!
The Options Menu
----------------
The first menu you see is the options menu. This is where you setup the
game you are about to play. Here is a description of the options...
Your Name: Doh.. the name you will use when playing.
CFG File: QD! will create it's own CFG file and +exec it (QD!.CFG). If you
want QD! to import the settings from a different file (ie: your
keyboard/mouse setup) you type it in here.
NOTE however, you only need to type it in once. After that, QD!
will have made an exact duplicate of your settings in it's file.
Color (Shirt): What color your shirt should be (0-15)
Color (Pants): What color your pants should be (0-15)
Phone Number: If your calling someone, you would put the phone number in
here. If you need to dial in pulse (it defaults to tone)
proceed the # with a ",D". You can also disable call waiting
by proceeding the # with the command.
Name: You can give this player a name for the phone book
Phone Book: Not yet supported.. next release.
COM: This is what internal QUAKE com port you want to use. Must be 1 or 2.
If you are usings say COM3 or COM5 for your modem, you need to pick 1 or
2 then set the UART and IRQ fields accordingly.
UART: Only put something in there if your not using COM1 or COM2.
IRQ: See UART
BAUD: This is the Baudrate at which you wish to play. I suggest leaving it
at 57600 unless you have a 9600baud modem.
INIT: Kinda speaks for itself.
DIAL (Field): Your Dial String.
Dial (Button): Click here to dial the phone number above.
Answer: Click here to answer an incomming call.
Head to Head: This is a specific mode for the H2H servers. It's not finished
yet.
Quit: Doh.
THE TERMINAL
------------
Once the game connects, you will be placed in a terminal where you can talk to
the other player. Press ALT-O will allow you to change if your the server or
the client. ALT-M will change the map. Alt-N (not yet support) will change
the name of the game.
Alt-S will start the game.
Alt-X will exit to dos.
When you first connect, the other player's NAME and CPU rating will be
displayed. Cool huh.
Also, if you hear a beep, it means that an option has changed.
SYNCING
-------
QD! defaults to the caller being the Server and the person who answers being
the CLIENT. You use of course use ALT-O to change this in the terminal window.
IMPORTANT: The SERVER should be the person with the fastest machine!
